Scripture Union Daily Guide 6th May 2026 – Outline

Read Jeremiah 50:1-3,8-10 again. It is not surprising that Babylon, God’s chosen instrument for punishing Israel and other nations will also be punished. But why? Jeremiah 50:11 shows that Babylon will be judged for pillaging and ravaging God’s inheritance and rejoicing over their destruction. She went beyond what God instructed her to do, and God considered it a sin (Jeremiah 50:14) which He would avenge (Jeremiah 50:15).

This shows that there is no favouritism with God. Being used by God is not an immunity against His judgement. If we contravene His instructions, we can be sure, He will not hesitate to punish us. While there is terrible judgement in store for Babylon, Jeremiah 50:4-5 gives a picture of the glorious future that is in store for God’s people, who were in captivity. God is ever ready to receive us when we repent and return to Him. Foreigners dwelling in Babylon are warned to flee the land because of the calamity coming upon her (Jeremiah 50:8-10).

Read Jeremiah 50:12-16 and note the level of her devastation. What warning is there in Jeremiah 50:6-7 for those of us in leadership? It is instructive for us to note that all the problems of Israel that finally culminated in captivity are traceable to wrong leadership.
